Welcome
I have created this website in order to share some of the photos and videos I took during my trips over the last 10+ years. Most of these trips are of international variety because I enjoy traveling to far-off places. I hope you enjoy viewing them.

I just returned from a trip to Hong Kong, Macau, and Japan. I chased sakura in northern parts of Japan, and I was rewarded with beautiful sights. Also, I enjoyed an afternoon watching sumo tournament in Tokyo. Click the images below for a few teaser photos from Hong Kong and Japan. Please return in a week or so for more photos and videos.

Updated the video gallery for Monterey on the Video Galleries page by adding new videos which I recently recorded at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Here's a sample video:

Since I heard that Monterey Bay Aquarium started new exhibits featuring jellyfish and sea horse, I spent half a day last week at the Aquarium. I enjoyed viewing my favorite sea creatures and took a lot of photos and video clips, which I am now editing. Here are a few teaser photos for now. Click any of them to start a short slideshow:

Updated the Web Authoring" page by describing how I replaced Flash contents with HTML 5/jQuery animation. The "Web Authoring" page is under the Potpourri > Technologies menu.
I corrected some problems on the "PC Desktop Calendars" pages.
These pages are under the Potpourri > PC Desktop Calendars menu. -

I replaced the 2D world map on the Photo Galleries page with a spinning globe. The globe to the left of this text is just a still image.
When you place the mouse cursor on the spinning globe on the Photo Galleries page, it will stop spinning so that you can click a "hot" spot to launch the video gallery for the selected destination.
However, please note that for those visitors using a tablet (such as an iPad or an Android-based tablet) to view this site, I am still loading the old Photo Galleries page with a 2D map. The reason is that the "mouse over" event does not work well on touch-screen devices.

After I updated the video galleries last night, I realized that the scroll bar on the "bulletin board" does not work when one is viewing with an iPad or some other touch-screen device. I purchased an iPad just a few days ago for the sole purpose of testing this site even though I find the popular device pretty useless. Since I had been remaking the home page with my newly acquired jQuerry script (Advanced Slider), I quickly remade the home page.
To spruce up the bulletin board I'm posing a few current bloomers from Chez Yoshi. Click any image to start a slide show:

I finally managed to update my video galleries so that all the videos can be viewed with any modern browser, including Safari on iOS devices such as iPad and iPhone. For example, the video gallery for the videos I took in Botswana looks like this.
Click the image to see it in action. I tried to keep the look and feel of the new gallery as similar to the old Flash video gallery as possible. I hope you like it. As always, all the videos can be accessed from the Video Galleries.

February 16, 2012 (continued)
... continued
It took a while partly because I had to render all the videos in two formats: mp4 (for Safari and IE) and WebM (for Firefox and Chrome). Another reason was that iOS devices refused to play video when the "video" tag was inside a plug-in script which I am using to display a column of thumbnails. I had to write a script to manage the video sources and the descriptions and to synchronize them to the thumbnails.
Now, I'm working on replacing the Flash slide shows. Many of the new slide shows are already working, but I still need to edit and organize many photos. Stay tuned ... -

Here's my belated new year's greeting. I have been rather busy updating another website which I maintain for my old high school class.
I just finished updating the Chez Yoshi page so that I can show off many of the plants I grow in my gardens. I have arranged the photos as slide shows. I hope you enjoy them!
I am continuing to update my video galleries and slide shows. I have already updated all the Travelogue pages by inserting some short video clips to some of them. The videos on those pages do not require the Adobe Flash player, as I am supplying the videos in two formats (mp4 and webM) that are supported by most browsers. -

I have created and uploaded monthly desktop calendars for 2012. They can be useful when setup as wallpaper on your PC desktop. You can always access the calendars by using the Potpourri menu.
One set of calendars feature photos from my May 2011 hiking trip to the Canadian Rockies.
In keeping with the tradition, I have also created a set that features orchid photos. Even though I no longer grow orchids, I know there are a number of you who enjoy my orchid calendars.

November 15, 2009
In the fall of 1998, I started learning how to create a website and started a small site to show off some of my orchids in bloom. It slowly grew into a fairly large site with tons of orchid photos - my own as well as those contributed by various visitors to the site.
After I retired in 2002 I was addicted to traveling, and I started adding photos and videos from my travels around the world. Eventually my orchid addiction was cured, and over the last few years I gave away almost all of my collection.
To make the story short, I abandoned my NotSoGreenThumb website, but I started this site in November 2009 to show off photos and videos from my travels. I hope you enjoy them.
Parts of the NotSoGreenThumb website still remain on this website. Select Potpourri > NotSoGreenThumb from the navigation menu, if you are interested.
