  • Welcome to "Around the Globe with Yoshi"
I have created this website in order to share some of the photos and videos I took during my trips over the last 10+ years. Most of these trips are of international variety because I enjoy traveling to far-off places. I hope you enjoy viewing them.

Although I used many Flash animations in creating the original version of this website, I am in a process of replacing them with "native" animations. I'm afraid that it will take some time.

Here's my belated new year's greeting. I have been rather busy updating another website which I maintain for my old high school class.

I just finished updating the Chez Yoshi page so that I can show off many of the plants I grow in my gardens. I have arranged the photos as slideshows. I hope you enjoy them!

I am continuing to replace the old-style slide shows which use Adobe Flash, but it takes a lot of time.

I have already updated all the Travelogue pages by inserting some short video clips to some of them. The videos on those pages do not require the Adobe Flash player, as I am supplying the videos in two formats that are supported by most browsers. To view an example, click here for a short video clip of kayakers. (For some reason Internet Explorer sometimes does not display the initial poster image. If you just move the mouse cursor onto the black rectangle, IE will display the video control bar, and you will be able to start the video.)

I have created and uploaded monthly desktop calendars for 2012. They can be useful when setup as wallpaper on your PC desktop. You can always access the calendars by using the Potpourri menu.

One set of calendars feature photos from my May 2011 hiking trip to the Canadian Rockies. In keeping with the tradition, I have also created a set that features orchid photos. Even though I no longer grow orchids, I know there are a number of you who enjoy my orchid calendars.

Since I am trying to make major updates to my website, please be patient.

I have tested the site with the latest versions of the following browsers: Firefox, IE9, Chrome, and Safari. Since I am using jQuery (javascript), you need to have javascript enabled. I am in a process of replacing the slideshows (which are Flash animations) with jQuery slideshows, but I'm afraid that it will take a while because I have so many photos!
  • Missing History
I have not uploaded the history for the period of Nov. 16, 2009 through Dec. 27, 2011. I may eventually add some.

In the fall of 1998, I started learning how to create a website and started a small site to show off some of my orchids in bloom. It slowly grew into a fairly large site with tons of orchid photos - my own as well as those contributed by various visitors to the site.

After I retired in 2002 I was addicted to traveling, and I started adding photos and videos from my travels around the world. Eventually my orchid addiction was cured, and over the last few years I gave away almost all of my collection.

To make the story short, I abandoned my NotSoGreenThumb website, but I decided to start a new site (this site) to show off photos and videos from my travels. In preparation for creating this site I started to learn Adobe Flash in order to incorporate animations into the new site. Many of the animations are based on the Flash files that I purchased for small fees and modified (hacked?) to satisfy my needs and preferences. I hope you enjoy them.
