For the initial implementation of the present website, I used Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 which was a part of Adobe CS3 Web Premium. It was quite a change from Microsoft FrontPage which I used to use to create and maintain my orchid website, which is no longer in existence. For the second version of this website, I am using Dreamweaver CS5.5, and I'm trying to use many of the features supported by HTML5. I like the close integration with other Adobe applications such as Photoshop and Fireworks. Also, I like the support for PHP scripts, which I am trying to learn. For example, the "Guestbook" on this site is actually a PHP public shareware that I modified (hacked?) to suit my needs. Dreamweaver, also, has a lot of automated scripts so that I rarely need to write my own codes in JavaScript. I think it's a great web-publishing software.
Although I successfully used several Adobe Flash animations to implement the initial version of this website, unfortunately Adobe Flash does not enjoy universal support. Also, the general trend seems to be a migration toward HTML5, CSS3 and jQuerry (a JavaScript library) to implement animations. Accordingly, I am in the process of replacing all of the Flash animations on this website. However, it will take sometime for me to replace the slideshows, on which I had spent a lot of time and energy!
Also, I'm going to miss the spinning globe that I had used as a springboard to various photo galleires. For now, I have replaced it with a 2D map. If interested, click there or the thumbnail to launch the spinning globe animation, a Flash animation.
